This is how to purify Potassium Nitrate This method is very easy but it isn’t reliable. It all depends on what kind of impurities are in the Potassium Nitrate. Whether it be Fertilizer, StumpRemover, or your own homemade Potassium Nitrate Crystals, you will have many impurities. You need to find out what they are and how to get rid of them. The process listed below will not remove all of the impurities. It might be best if you buy your Potassium Nitrate online.

First you need to collect your Potassium Nitrate. If you have made your own gather up the yellow crystals off of your nitre bed. If you havn’t made your own you can buy some stump remover or a fertilizer. Make sure the stump remover or fertilizer actually has potassium nitrate in it. If you have made your own Potassium Nitrate the next step in the purification process is to filter it. You can do this using a very finely woven cloth or coffee filter. This will remove the majority of the non soluble contaminants. Make sure that the water you use to filter the crystals is hot. Next you will need to boil the water. As you boil the water the soluble contaminant salts will rise to the top. Scoop these out. After you have boiled the water down to half of its original volume you can allow it to cool and recrystalize. If you have stump remover or fertilizer dissolve it in hot water and allow to cool. As the water cools the potassium nitrate will recrystalize. Take these crystals and wash them with very cold water. Washing away the remainder of the contaminants.

No matter how small the impurity may be in the Potassium Nitrate. The effects of that impurity can make drastic changes to the way the Potassium Nitrate propellant burns.
